About ChartKo

Explore Korean statistics through charts, comparisons and the context behind the numbers.

Public data, everyday questions

Where is the population shrinking? How has the size and composition of the money supply changed? ChartKo turns public statistics into charts and comparison measures to explore changes across places and periods.

ChartKo is independently operated by ChartKo operator. It is not an official website of a statistical agency. ChartKo creates the presentation and commentary.

Sources and calculations

Our main sources are the Korean Statistical Information Service (KOSIS) and the Bank of Korea's ECOS. Pages identify any additional sources, estimates and assumptions they use.

We collect published data, align periods, regions and units, and calculate changes and shares. Displayed values use at most one decimal place; counts of people use whole numbers. Rounded component shares may not add up to exactly 100%.

Before comparing numbers

A reference date identifies the period covered by the data, not today's conditions or a live reading. Release schedules and the latest available periods differ across indicators. Revisions and collection timing can also change historical values.

Check that periods, units and populations are comparable. Two indicators moving together does not establish causation. Consult the original data and further evidence when assessing personal circumstances or making important decisions.

How we prepare data and explanations

The ChartKo operator manages the selection of statistics, presentation, calculations and explanations. Programs collect data and perform repeated calculations. AI tools assist with development, translation and explanatory writing. AI-assisted text is not an official interpretation by the statistical agency or a claim of expert review.

We distinguish regional codes, periods and units before calculating changes and shares on a comparable basis. Missing comparison periods or categories are distinguished from actual zeroes. Automated tests check calculations and page behavior, but cannot eliminate revisions or errors in the source data.

When an error is found, we compare the source table and reference period, correct the data, calculation or explanation, and add or adjust tests as needed. Corrections that affect interpretation are recorded below. Please include the page address and source evidence in error reports.

Significant corrections

  • 2026-09-30 · Semiconductor locations: restored nine weight sliders, four charts and regional comparison cards. Scores are explicitly labeled as illustrative simulation values, alongside the sourced reading guide.
  • 2026-09-18 · Semiconductor locations: removed scores and rankings without verified regional evidence and replaced them with a guide to relevant data and evaluation criteria.
  • 2026-09-18 · Consumer prices: corrected the claim that gaps between price indices alone identify temporary price shocks. The guide now separates cumulative change since the base year from year-on-year change.
  • 2026-09-18 · Foreign-owned housing: totals and shares are no longer calculated when a required housing type is missing.
  • 2026-09-18 · Economic dashboard: corrected the claim that a wider loan-deposit rate spread necessarily increases a borrower’s burden and clarified the comparison period for inflation rates.
